Measure the Load First

Start with honest figures. How much needs to move? What are the heaviest single items? Note anything long, tall or hard to stack. Then add spare room for straps, blankets and late extras. A family clearing a full house needs more space than a flat move suggests.

Let Access Set the Size

Measure the tightest gap, gate or entrance with a tape. Never judge by eye. Note turning space, height limits and where a truck may stand. A vehicle that carries everything but cannot reach the door has solved nothing. Access often settles size more than cargo does.

Settle the Drivers Early

Only people named on the hire agreement may drive. Decide who they are before you book. Check each licence is valid and covers the size of truck you want. Declare any endorsements or non-UK licences upfront. A hesitant driver may prefer something smaller, so say so early.

Time and Terms

Quote collection and return times from your real diary. Loosen both. Paperwork, loading, travel and refuelling all eat the day. In the same enquiry, ask about insurance, the excess, deposit, mileage and fuel rules. Flag any chance of a second day while the booking forms. Extensions are easier then.
