Settle the Drivers Before You Settle the Truck

Decide who is driving before you look at vehicles. If two relatives plan to share the wheel on a long run, both need to be accepted by the hire firm, and that shapes which trucks you can realistically take. Sorting drivers first prevents choosing a vehicle you then cannot legally take away.

Match the Truck to the Load You Actually Have

Picture the load in concrete terms rather than guessing. Someone carrying three suitcases, a folded pushchair and four passengers needs a very different layout from a person shifting flat-packed furniture. List each bulky item, estimate its footprint, and use that tally to narrow the size class you ask about.

A bigger truck is only useful if it fits where you are going. If the journey involves a narrow lane or a tight car park, a smaller body may be the wiser call even when the load would allow more. Walk the route in your mind, including turning points and where you will unload.

Get the Timing and the Terms Right at the Same Time

Fix the dates, then read the paperwork alongside them. A Saturday collection might suit your helpers yet clash with the firm's opening hours, and a particular model may not be free on the day you want, so it helps to have a fallback date. Read the agreement once, carefully, before signing anything.
