Name Every Driver Before You Call

A hire agreement only covers the drivers written on it, so decide at home who might take a turn. Check each licence is current, find the paper copy, and mention points or licences issued abroad so the firm can advise properly.

Measure the Load, Then Pick a Size

Start with an inventory rather than a favourite model. Someone torn between a smaller and larger truck, say, settles it by measuring the bulkiest items and adding a margin. Volume matters as much as weight, and awkward access favours something compact.

Give the Clock Some Slack

Both handovers take longer than a diary entry suggests: travel, paperwork, a condition walk-round, then loading — and the same in reverse on return. Book hours well inside opening times, and ask early about late returns or adding a day.

Put Money and Cover Questions in Writing

Ask about insurance, excess, deposits, mileage and fuel while everything is still an email thread. Query cover for tools or goods in the back, since load cover often sits apart from vehicle cover. Get anything promised in writing.
