Be Realistic About the Hours You Ask For

First-time hirers often ask for a car from nine to five, then find plans overrun. If you are collecting at ten, attending a lunchtime party and driving home via a supermarket stop, a two o'clock return is fantasy. Build in an hour of slack and stop clock-watching.

Work Out the Driving Roster First

Decide who drives before the paperwork, not after. Perhaps your partner copes better with narrow lanes while you prefer town parking; a single named driver saves money but removes that flexibility. Both of you will need licences and details ready, and swapping later usually costs more than deciding now.
